Hi, I'm Jan König 👋. I'm one of the founders of Jovo, 28 years old, and live in Berlin. < Go back to learn more.

It has to suck.

I'm currently recording a course on how to code a chatbot for Facebook Messenger for Udemy. This means coding, talking, and recording my face while doing all of this. It's odd.

I thought it would be a great challenge, but it really sucked. I didn't like it at all. I was just really bad at it and for some screencasts, it took me 2 hours to record a 90-second video. So I procrastinated on it over the last 3 weeks and hated myself for doing so.

The last 3 days though, I tried it again, full time. And it's starting to make fun!
The first 3 or 4 videos really sucked and took a lot of time. But now, with every video I can feel how I'm getting better at using my voice, gestures, and pauses to underline what I'm trying to teach in the course. And it's energizing to become better!

This is what I learned today: When something sucks, stick with it a little more. Only when it's difficult you can learn something from it.
See you,
-Jan
